The NHS pay dispute and ballot #physiotalk 7th Nov 8pm

I’m typing this towards the end of October when the country is in a state of turmoil again following the resignation of Liz Truss as Prime Minister. Events are moving so fast I am almost hesitant to type up a post for our next #physiotalk tweetchat on Monday 7th November at 8pm GMT.

On Monday 7th November physiotherapists working in the NHS in England and Wales will start to receive ballot papers regarding industrial action. Those working in Scotland have already been balloted and those in Northern Ireland are getting a consultative ballot.

This is almost unprecedented and for many physiotherapists it will be the first time you have voted about taking industrial action. And we certainly do want to encourage ALL physiotherapists working in the NHS to use your vote. It is really important that there is a clear mandate and as the vote is per employer rather than for the whole NHS workforce, your vote really does matter!

If you are unsure about any aspect of the ballot then please do check out the CSP pages on NHS pay which gives clear information about the process and the background to the ballot.

However, physiotherapists working in other sectors or privately are most certainly not immune to the impact of the cost of living and inflationary rises on their pay – and we want to hear from you as well during our tweetchat on 7th November.

Chat questions

Do you feel your pay has kept up with inflationary pressures?

Have you voted in the ballot?

What are your feelings about taking industrial action?

What type of industrial action would you be willing to take?

How do you reconcile patient care with taking action?
