Are you ready for the new HCPC standards? #physiotalk Mon 28th August 2023

The next chat is on Monday 28th August at 8pm BST. It will focus on the updated HCPC standards, effective from 1st September, that we all have to adhere to as registrants.

As registered physiotherapists we have to adhere to the HCPC standards of practice, and the current standards have been in place for several years. The HCPC have undertaken a review and consultation on the standards and updated these for all the professions that they register.

The new standards come into force in a weeks time, on 1st September 2023 – are you ready for them and do you know what the changes are?

The key changes can be grouped into five themes:

  • equality, diversity and inclusion,
  • further centralising the service user,
  • registrants’ mental health,
  • digital skills and new technologies
  • leadership.

Additionally the physiotherapy specific standards have an increasing focus on promoting public health and preventing ill-health. The changes move away from physiotherapists passively understanding the standards to a requirement that they can actively demonstrate the standards in practice.

Chat questions

1: Are you fully aware of the revised standards

2: Have you used or considered using the Gap Analysis tool?

3: Have you considered how you will demonstrate the standards in practice.

4: What changes might you have to make to your practice to meet the standards?

5: What do you feel is the greatest challenge for you to demonstrate the standards in practice
